Who’s Who? – GDE210

For the first official workshop of the year we were tasked to become familliar with different designers. We were tasked to randomly select three graphic designers from a list of 40. My choices were Wim Crouwel, Paula Sher and 8vo.

The First Artist I researched was Wim Crouwel, one of the OG’s of swiss typography. I watched an interview of his from 2015 in which he explains his love for the simplicity of swiss typography. specifically his use of Helvetica, Akzidenz Grotesk, and Univers.

the list of influential graphic designers, and my selections

My verdict on the work of Wim Crouwel:

Museum brochure designs by Wim Crouwel

What I liked :

  1.  Strong Brand identity sysrtem in place
  2. Use of Colour
  3. Sans Serif TypeFace
  4. Swiss design

What I don't like so much :

  1. Boring! doesn’t excite me.
  2. Loses individuality of the Artist
  3.  Could be a bit more experimental (more risk).

Next up: 8vo
